Amanda Cordell
LCSW, MSEd
Amanda Cordell is a licensed clinical social worker and special education teacher in California. Her experience spans public, private, and hospital schools in California and New York. She has also provided individual, family, and group therapy services at a community mental health agency. Prior to becoming a teacher and social worker, she worked in program development at an educational non-profit and in the private sector. Amanda now supports teachers, social workers, and other direct service providers to develop cross-disciplinary approaches to effectively support students impacted by multiple systems involvement. She received her MSW from Columbia School of Social Work and her MSEd from Bank Street College of Education.
Bridging Silos: Transforming Outcomes with Cross-Disciplinary Tools
Cross-disciplinary collaboration is key to client success, especially for youth and families who are involved with multiple systems. Unfortunately, providers experience barriers to effective service delivery due to breakdowns in collaboration. My experience as both a special education teacher and social worker has given me unique insight into how interdisciplinary understanding enables better communication, collaboration, and targeted support. This workshop explores the barriers that social workers and other providers experience when working on cross-disciplinary teams to support youth and families impacted by multiple systems, as well as tools to overcome cross-disciplinary challenges.
In a climate of reduced resources for education and social services providers, cross-disciplinary models decrease provider isolation while delivering more comprehensive client care. By building bridges and breaking down operational silos, we can create more effective, sustainable support systems for clients and providers alike.
