The Grief of Becoming: Recognizing Non-Death Loss During Life and Identity Transitions
Grief is often associated with death, yet many clients experience profound loss in the absence of bereavement. The end of a relationship, career changes, shifts in identity, evolving family roles, healing from old patterns, unmet expectations, and life transitions can all evoke grief that frequently goes unrecognized in clinical practice.
This presentation explores contemporary research on non-death grief, ambiguous loss, identity transitions, and meaning-making. Participants will learn how grief may present as anxiety, depression, burnout, indecision, or emotional distress and will gain practical strategies for recognizing and supporting clients navigating the space between who they were, who they thought they would be, and who they are becoming.
