Day 1 Session 2C - Breaking Chains, Building Bridges: Navigating the Reintegration of African American Teenage Girls from Juvenile Detention - Exploring Family Challenges and Transformational Interventions

In light of the persistently disproportionate representation of African American teenage girls in juvenile detention centers, it is paramount to recognize and address the unique challenges faced by their parents/guardians.This workshop seeks to shed light on the often-overlooked struggles of parents/guardians during the detention and reintegration phases. Professionals in the mental health field play a pivotal role in this transformative journey. This presentation will provide an in-depth exploration of the experiences of parents/guardians while their daughters are in detention and throughout the reintegration process. This interactive presentation will engage attendees through a semi-open discussion on the topic, equip attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by families, and enable them to tailor interventions that address the unique needs of African American teenage girls and their parents/guardians. The presentation will conclude with a question and answer period.
