Day 2 Session 6A: Twerk & Heal: A New Perspective on Holistic Wellness

Session Summary

Twerking has gotten a bad rap in the world of hip-hop, social media, and music videos. However, at its core twerk is a dynamic dance style that promotes healthy movement and mindset. The movement incorporated in this dance allows participants to become more flexible, increase endurance and to move stagnant energy with the hips, thighs, and mid-section. Not only is twerking a physical release but it is also an energetic release as we focus on the sacral chakra and the mindset of each person who participates. Meeting everyone where they are, twerk can be a safe space for community building, stress relief, and confidence building. Not to mention, the dance allows women to reconnect with their bodies in a sensual way which has long been stigmatized.
