Global Voices of Our Sacred Mothers: Feminine Liberation and Cross-Cultural Healing

Course Summary

In an era marked by global uncertainty, shifting cultural landscapes, and deep systemic challenges, this session invites attendees to engage in a radical re-imagining of Black maternal health through both literary and healing lenses. We will explore how Black women’s embodied experiences of pregnancy, birth and postnatal care are shaped by culture, theology, history, and global movements of marginalization and liberation. We explore the sacredness of Black maternal bodies, disrupt traditional boundaries in maternal health care, uplifts diverse voices (including those in the diaspora and Global South), and map pathways toward collective resilience and healing. The goal is to center Black mothers not merely as patients, but as sacred caregivers, knowledge-bearers, and agents of change.
