Presenter's Bio
With 18 years of dedicated service in the field of social work, Ms. Shevonne Matthews, LCSW-C, brings extensive experience and a heartfelt commitment to the individuals and communities she serves. Her career began in 2007 within the foster care system, where she quickly distinguished herself by transforming strong theoretical foundations into practical and compassionate care. Her clinical work has supported people across all life stages—children, teens, and adults—helping them navigate some of life’s most complex challenges.
Throughout her career, Ms. Matthews has developed specialized expertise in Child Welfare and the treatment of acute and chronic mental health conditions, including mood dysregulation, psychosis, and anxiety disorders. Her approach is strengths-based, culturally informed, and client-centered, ensuring that every person feels understood, valued, and empowered. She is passionate about serving African American communities and approaches each therapeutic relationship with deep cultural awareness and respect.
In recent years, Ms. Matthews expanded her scope of practice to include bariatric consulting and therapy, supporting individuals through the emotional, physical, and identity shifts that accompany weight loss surgery and lifestyle transformation. She guides clients with empathy, honesty, and a high regard for their personal resilience.
Ms. Matthews proudly embraces her Christian faith as the foundation of both her personal and professional values. Her work is driven by a deep belief that every person is worthy of healing, restoration, and joy—and that no one is defined solely by the roles they play in others’ lives. She strives to help clients rediscover who they are, reconnect with their purpose, and experience the fullness of life they deserve.
She often reflects on the quote by Erma Bombeck: “When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me.’” This sentiment fuels her ongoing commitment to show up with excellence, authenticity, and unwavering dedication in every space she enters.
Ms. Matthews is not only a clinician but also an educator, speaker, and advocate. She is available for workshops, trainings, conferences, and media engagements where she uses her voice to reduce mental health stigma and empower others—especially within the Black community.
Through each service she provides, Ms. Matthews remains guided by one mission: to help people understand that they are worthy of love, worthy of healing, and worthy of becoming their fullest selves.
