Day 1 Session 2A - Heal the Healers: Self-Care for the Helping Professional as an Ethical Consideration

Being a helping professional can be emotionally and even physically taxing. In the day to day care of clients, helpers often forget about self-care. Research shows that burnout for helping professionals is 67% greater than for other professions (Morse et al., 2012). With such a high burnout rate, helping professionals must stay on top of self-care so that they remain effective in client care. In this workshop we will discuss what self-care means for the helping professional, how to remain consistent in self-care, establishing sabbath rest, and practical tools and tips to make self-care a lifestyle and not one time events.
